Toronto Rapper Drake (now world wide)

Written on October 8th, 2009 by Leeroyone shout

New rap artist Drake (actual name: Aubrey Graham) of the rich area of Forest Hill in Toronto has recently within the last year became an overnight celebrity. Singing with (Young Money Entertainment) owned by Lil Wayne.

Rollin through the hood

Rollin' through the hood

Drake the former Degrassi Jr. high actor is now having his music played all over the radio. I must admit after hearing some of his music I thought it sounded pretty good.

However after Flow 93.5 continued to play his music every half hour it became disgusting listening to his pop like rap music.

After trying to freestyle with a written rap on an American radio station, finding out that he grew up in a multi-million dollar house in Forest Hill and having a name like Aubrey (he is also half Jewish), it was beginning to look like you didn’t need to be shot to become a famous rapper. I guess street credibility really doesn’t matter anymore to the hip-hop demographic. It is possible that the whole gangsta rap era is over? If that’s true, it could be the reason why Dr. Dre is taking his sweet time bringing out his new album Detox.

It reminds me of some lyrics from Eminem,

“All I see is sissies in magazines smiling
Whatever happened to whylin out and bein’ violent?
Whatever happened to catchin’ a good-ol’ fashioned passionate
Ass-whoopin’ and gettin’ your shoes coat and your hat tooken?”

Does this mean the youth of today will begin growing gardens and will stay in school?  Does this mean people will stop shooting each other and stealing shit ?  No!

So why the fuck do I care?  Because is this really the type of rap artist we want? Rich from Canada, actor from a gay high school tv show wants to be a rapper? So what is my point to all of this? Im asking too many questions right?

Honestly while I have gotten tired of listening to gangsta rap music, this watered down white wash, cracker music is killing me. Fuck Eminem is actually white and has more gangster in him then this fruit. Maybe because I grew up listening to real rap music and real artists that I look at this rich kid and think WTF?  What makes you able to grow up without the struggle and just throw some shit out and blow up?

While others starved in the streets and worked in the streets to get to where they are today you drop some shit because your father is a somebody who’s got connections. Don’t get me wrong you still have to have skill. But really I don’t like him, I don’t like any of it and I personally think that when the honeymoon is over Drake will just be another flash in the pan.

My name is LeeRoy ……….AND I CHALLENGE DRAKE TO A FREESTYLE BITCH!  Yeah I called you a bitch …. BITCH!

Drake gets out his wheelchair, sells out, then sucks

Written on October 8th, 2009 by sempireno shouts

I see that at this very moment Leeroy is writing an entry about Drake, so since I had a few things on my mind about him, I figured I’ll write my own and see where our opinions stand.

I don’t care at all for drake.  At first I thought it was Lupe Fiasco or something.  I didn’t even know he was from Toronto.  The sad part is that he got a little fame in music, ran off to the US to record with US rappers, and I can’t ever recall him mentionig Toronto in a song.  Like you are from here, aren’t you Drake?  Kardinal Offishal is from Toronto, and every song you hear from him, he represents Toronto.  Kardinal is also a much better rapper.  Unfortunately for us, a lot of hip-hop now is super mainstream, and super weak.  When you hear Drake rap, you would think it’s maybe a new Justin Timberlake track.  Anyways, it would be nice for you to rep up where you come from.

Out of the wheelchair, out of the closet?

Out of the wheelchair, out of the closet?

However,  hey man, you did it.  Most Toronto rappers don’t sell out that quick and never really get beyond Toronto or Canada. I guess some times you need to sell out to get where you wanna be, and now you have all the suburban white kids loving you.  I can understand why Flow 93.5 plays your 3 songs back to back in between all the bullshit they normally play.  You fit there right between house music, and garbage R&B.  Pretty good for someone whose claim to fame is playing a handicap guy on a faggy Canadian TV show 20 years ago.

lil wayne just wants the cock

lil' wayne just wants the cock

Funny enough, out of all people Lil’ Wayne.  I am surprised he is still around, that dude came out and flopped, and now he’s getting some ghost written fame, and Drake is on his nuts.  Rumor was that he was a fudge packer.  Better watch your fudge!

Maybe you are living the American Canadian rap dream, but homie, I gotta give my props to the real hip-hop heads that represent where they came from.  It’s always easy to sell out and get what you want, but eventually your core people will have no respect for you.  Like this.

The NEW Flow 93.5

Written on October 7th, 2009 by sempireno shouts

New?

Toronto’s hip-hop radio station was something that people looked forward to for year when it was first started.  In Toronto if you wanted to listen to the radio, you only had a few formats to choose from.  Rock, Dance, Country and Talk.  That’s it pretty much.  Flow 93.5 was to break the mold by becoming Toronto’s first and only hip-hop radio station.  Even though it was considered to be mainstream, it was nice to have a choice of something different.

Unfortunately in the last few years everything changed. The  hip-hop has been replaced with dance and house music, and any little hip-hop that is played is scarce, repetitive and usually so mainstream it sounds like Britney Spear remixes of mainstream hip-hop.

Wow.house music

It didn’t take too long to completely sell out.

People want to get paid and have their glory, so why not abandon the people that made you to run after the people that wouldn’t give you the time of day because you were too “urban” and played “black people” music only “black” people liked.

Flow 93.5 is now called “The New Flow”, meaning “The New White Washed Flow” that now aims to please a whole different audience, leaving their previous audience dying for another hip-hop station to pop up and fill the void.

I used to listen to flow, I’m not into mainstream hip-hop, but for the drive, I could adjust.  Now, every time I tune into Flow, there’s music I don’t recognize, and don’t care for.

Thanks Flow.  You let a lot of people down.  I hope the white suburban audience you’re chasing treats you well. Sell outs.
